176.0 VII-i CLARIFICATION NOTICE

POLICY MANUALS APPLICABLE TO USM STAFF EMPLOYEES

The USM Board of Regents approved BOR-USM Policy VII - P1.00 effective 
July 1, 1996; technical amendments approved by the Chancellor June 15, 
2001.  This policy establishes two major job groups for Staff employees 
of the USM: Nonexempt and Exempt.

As a result of this action, the following terms on any policies promulgated 
prior to July 1, 1996 should read:

	-Classified (Exempt)			-Exempt
	-Academic Administrator			-Exempt
	-Unclassified 				-Exempt
	-Associate Staff			-Exempt
	-Administrative				-Exempt

The Nonexempt and Exempt job groups were established as part of the USM 
Pay Program approved by the BOR.  Phase I-Nonexempt was approved and 
implemented on July 1, 1996.  Phase II-Exempt was approved and implemented 
on January 1, 2000.

Any amendments or new policies promulgated after July 1,1996 shall reflect 
the changes made above.

This notice applies to the following policy manuals:

	1.  Bylaws, Policies and Procedures of the BOR-USM
	2.  Laws Relating to and Governing Policies and Procedures of the 
	    BTSUC
	3.  UM Personnel Policies and Rules for Classified Employees
	4.  UM Personnel Policies and Rules for Associate Staff
	5.  UM BOR Policies and Procedures Manual
