USM University Relations Council
With the formation of the University System of
Maryland (USM) in 1988, the USM Regents and
Chancellor in consultation with the presidents of the constituent institutions
recommended the formation of a systemwide council
on university relations.
The resulting University Relations Council (URC)
comprises the chief public relations officers
from each of the USM institutions, chaired by the chief public relations
officer for the USM Office.
The URC meets regularly and communicates frequently
about all aspects of public relations, serving
as a forum for:
-
identifying mutually supportive strategies among
USM institutions;
-
developing cooperative arrangements that increase
efficiency and effectiveness;
-
coordinating multi-institutional initiatives;
-
clarifying institutional and university system identities;
-
ensuring consistency of messages where appropriate;
-
establishing systemwide goals;
-
recommending systemwide policies and procedures;
-
sharing best practices;
-
facilitating professional development;
-
resolving inter-institutional conflicts.
